MOTORSPORT TEAM ACHIEVES 2ND IN THE 2008 SAE - AUSTRALASIA FORMULA
SAE COMPETITION
The University of
Western Australia Motorsport (UWAM) achieved second place in the
SAE-Australasia Formula SAE competition held 27th - 30th November
at Victoria University, Werribee.
The UWAM team achieved 810 points accumulated
across the individual disciplines of vehicle cost, presentation,
design, acceleration, skid pan, autocross and endurance/economy,
with the University of Stuttgart taking out the top position with
961 points. Third was Sophia University, with 742 points.
The formula SAE-A entrants have the challenge
to build a prototype autocross car, for a projected production cost
of less than $50,000 Australian Dollars. There were 27 participants,
including the major Australian universities, along with entrants
from Germany, New Zealand and Asian universities.
Orbital has been a proud platinum sponsor of
the UWAM team for the last 5 years, providing technical support
and training as well as access to Orbital's state of the art automotive
testing and development facilities to assist the UWAM team. Many
of Orbital's graduate engineers have come from the UWAM program
as it provides a good combination of "hands on" engineering
and project management.
